My primary research goals are focused on remote sensing of agroecosystems, precision agriculture and high throughput field phenotyping. This using satellite imagery and unmanned aerial vehicle equipped with multi-hyperspectral and thermal imaging. My expertise is focused on remote sensing data processing, crop modelling, data fusion, machine learning and geostatistics. Other scientific skills focused on spatial data analysis applied to agriculture to provide agronomic information at high spatial resolution and the development of wireless sensor network for agricultural research.
I'm the PI of an EU PRIMA project called DATI (Digital Agriculture Technologies for Irrigation efficiency) project aimed to develop and implement new Digital Agriculture (DA) technological solutions and innovative digital procedures to enhance irrigation efficiency by developing low-cost and lean solutions that can reach small-scale farmers, primarily by using low-cost hardware simplified data-driven models. The idea is to realize different low cost technical solution as packages, characterized to one sensor and a platform free to use also for small farm able to detect water stress and drive the irrigation practices.
