GRI Researcher Receives Additional Funding for Oil Spill Research
June 30, 2011Dr. Deepak Mishra has been awarded a grant from the Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative Research Board. The funding will support the time-sensitive acquisition of critical samples and observations in relation to the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill in the Gulf of Mexico last year. The funding will support work from July lst to September 30th, 2011. In all, 17 grants were awarded totaling $1.5 million. The grants will allow observations and sampling of physical distribution, dispersion, chemical evolution, biological degradation and environmental effects of the oil spill which would otherwise not be available.
