GIS Day 2010 Held at MSU

December 8, 2010

GIS Day was recently held at the High Performance Computing Collaboratory building in the Thad Cochran Research, Technology and Economic Development Park. The event now in its seventh year, is sponsored by the Department of Geosciences and Geosystems Research Institute. Over one hundred students from Lee Middle School in Columbus and the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science participated in the event. The students learned about the role geography plays in understanding natural disasters by using geographic information systems knowledge and technology to respond to a simulated flood as well as career opportunities within GIS.

GIS Day is funded by the National Science Foundation through the Initiating New Science Partnerships in Rural Education program at MSU.
