Mississippi State University's (MSU) Office of Research and Division of Agriculture have designated the GeoResources Institute (GRI) as the point of contact to identify and coordinate Homeland Security opportunities that match MSU's expertise and facilities. As an additional responsibility, the GRI was designated to develop and validate a suite of spatial analysis, modeling and visualization research programs and applications to help identify threats to national agriculture, public health, transportation infrastructure, forestry, and water and environmental resources.

Relevant GRI research and outreach efforts include:

  • Development of geospatial technologies for use in Agency decision support systems.
  • Water resources research, training, and technology transfer programs for state and regional authorities and the resource management communities.
  • Development of "crosscutting" techniques for computational modeling, visualization, and integrated archiving systems, utilizing the benefits of multiple technologies in each application.
