The GeoResources Institute's (GRI) research efforts are becoming nationally recognized with the emphasis that is being placed on national and international protection and the development of our economic infrastructure.

MSU's Office of Research and Division of Agriculture has designated the GRI as the point of contact to identify and coordinate homeland security opportunities that match MSU's expertise and facilities.

The GRI develops and promotes the use of remote sensing applications and spatial information technologies to increase the timeliness and cost-effectiveness of completing transportation projects, particularly involving the process of streamlining in accordance with the National Environmental Protection Act's process for transportation corridors.

Research efforts also include utilizing spatial technologies and remote sensing applications to aid in the study of such catastrophic occurrences as earthquakes and hurricanes.

While the Institute works to better our understanding of water resources, the research being performed is also driving economic development in and around those resources.
