The Mississippi State University Extension Service provides research-based information, educational programs, and technology transfer focused on issues and needs of the people of Mississippi, enabling them to make informed decisions about their economic, social, and cultural well-being. Many researchers in the GeoResources Institute hold Extension appointments and strive to involve and educate the public in many ways.

For instance, Dr. Scott Samson, Geospatial Extension Specialist with the GRI, leads our group in offering special GIS software classes through his designation as an ESRI Authorized Instructor. His classes on GIS software have become a much-in-demand service to numerous city, county and state governmental agencies for the management of public databases.

Dr. Samson has developed a series of information sheets entitled “GIS Notes” that contain helpful information for Mississippi’s GIS User communities.

A series of GIS Tutorials have been developed which provide instructions and downloadable data for various GIS exercises.

Dr. Samson has put together resources related to GIS. These resources are provided here for your convenience.
