22nd Conference on Weather Analysis and Forecasting / 18th Conference on Numerical Weather Prediction - June 25-29 2007
GeoResources Institute March 28, 2007
What: 22nd Conference on Weather Analysis and Forecasting / 18th Conference on Numerical Weather Prediction
When: June 25 - 29, 2007
Where: Yarrow Resort Hotel & Conference Center, Park City, Utah
The 22nd Conference on Weather Analysis and Forecasting/18th Conference on Numerical Weather Prediction,
sponsored by the American Meteorological Society, and organized by the AMS Committee on Weather Analysis
and Forecasting, will be held 24-29 June 2007, at The Yarrow Resort Hotel & Conference Center (Hotel) in
Park City, Utah.
This conference is focused on the "Analysis and Prediction of High-Impact Weather". Specific goals
include:
- to assess our current abilities to analyze and predict weather events that contribute to
significant numbers of fatalities or economic loss and
- to highlight research underway to improve those capabilities through improved understanding of the
underlying physical processes, as well as improved numerical methods.
The scope of the conference is not limited to specific types of high-impact
weather. However, this conference emphasizes examining the success or failure of analysis and prediction
methods for such events in an aggregate sense, rather than relying solely on case studies of local
interest. The Committee solicits papers and posters on the following topics:
- assessments of methods to define and characterize high-impact weather events;
- examination of the accuracy and value of analyses and predictions of such events;
- advancements in the application of ensemble filters to data assimilation and NWP;
- applications of global and regional model and reanalysis products to assess the occurrence of
high-impact weather;
- improvements in deterministic and probabilistic methods;
- research and operational forecasts of high-impact weather systems;
- operational, research, and commercial applications of gridded data bases (e.g.,
National Digital Forecast Database).
The deadline for abstracts has passed. Authors of accepted presentations will be notified (via e-mail) by
13 April 2007.
In addition, a “Mini Suite” option will be available to all authors for an additional fee of $65. This
includes the submission of an extended abstract (in .pdf, up to 3MB) if uploaded by 25 May 2007 and if you
choose, the posting of your recorded presentation at the conference. All extended abstracts will be
permanently archived and may be viewed online at the AMS Website. No hardcopy preprints or CD-ROM will
be distributed at the conference.
The WAF Committee will also be offering awards for best oral and poster presentations by a student at the
Conference. Up to 6 awards will be given. To be eligible, a student must present his/her own research
and serve as first author.
