The GeoResources Institute has created a designation of Research Fellow for those academic faculty members who
choose to work with GRI on research and outreach projects. GRI Research Fellows will be listed in various
publications, thus highlighting their commitment and expertise.
The GeoResources Institute at Mississippi State University focuses on multi-disciplinary research and
outreach efforts. As such, it seeks to build teams of faculty from across the university with complementary
expertise that can address some of the most pressing issues facing our society today. In order to
accomplish this, the GRI relies heavily on the academic faculty from the various departments in most, if
not all, of the colleges at MSU. This approach provides direct support to departments through salary
buyout, graduate student support, and research operational support. It also allows the GRI to have a much
larger pool of talent from which to draw, rather than relying on a limited number of GRI research faculty.
Designation as a Research Fellow provides academic faculty the opportunity to be recognized formally for their
affiliation with GRI, and also indicates approval from their department head for that affiliation.
